BOGOTA Posted 8/29/2010
Sunday - August 15th, 2010 - Today is the day for our big trip to Bogotá, Columbia, South America!!!! Can’t believe our music has led us here!! God is good!! Long day of flights (layover in Miami - like 5 hours) but good flights. Met new friends from Compassion and other trip companions. Everyone is soooo nice! All our luggage made it so we’re off to a great start!!!! Loaded the bus and headed to the hotel!! Something weird happened too…..There was a plane crash somewhere near here and the Compassion group kept getting texts to see if we were okay. It was not our plane thank God but how weird is that!!! Bed by 12:30 am up early tomorrow. Monday - August 16th, 2010 - Up at 5:45 am!! Short night. Met at 7:30 am with all the group. Everyone introduced themselves, where they come from and what they do. After we were done 3 of the children that have been sponsored showed up to meet with their sponsors!!! And the crying begins……It’s going to be a Kleenex week!!! One of the employees of Compassion has been a sponsor for 12 years and they met for the first time!! What a meeting. Now we can’t wait to meet our sponsored children!! Then we were off to do a family visit. We drove for quite a ways up to the outskirts of Bogotá in the mountainous area. Couldn’t believe the houses we were seeing if you want to call them that. They were put together by metal sheets and anything else they could use to create shelter. Just unbelievable. We walked up this narrow, rocky path up the mountain to get to the first home. We were all out of breath cause Bogotá is 8660 feet above sea level. But, what a wonderful family. They were sooo excited to see all of us. We were 6 in our group. The house was so small, had dirt floors and was totally opened in one area with no roof. Bogotá has lots of rain so I can’t imagine what it’s like when the rain comes and every night it gets down to the 40s. We did not know that Bogotá has no seasons it’s always mid 60’s in the day and 40s at night so there is never any relief from the cold or rain. The Mom’s name was Sandra. She had 4 boys and her husband living in a very small space. We were in the kitchen area and looked over to an area that had no roof, wide open to the elements, and there was a chicken sitting there on an upside down toilet so she could lay her eggs!! Words can’t even begin to describe this. Then we walked up on rock stairs to their bedroom area. Two small rooms, one for the parents and one for the 4 boys. The boys had two beds and they switch beds every night so each night they sleep with a different brother. Really cute and well raised boys I might add. One of them asked if we could stay and another asked when were we coming back!!! The oldest boy, once he found out we were brother & sister, asked if that was why our hair was the same color. I told him we had the same hairdresser. Everyone thought that was funny!! Two of the boys were sponsored but one only had one letter from his sponsor and it was on the wall. He never heard from them again and his mother said he cries about this a lot. His eyes were welling up with tears as she told us. I felt so bad, I wanted to write to him. Who knew that writing letters to your sponsor child would make such an impact on their life!! Eye opening!! The other boy who was sponsored got lots of letters and pictures from his sponsor but he never shared any of it with any of the family. Sandra said he hid all his letters and no one knows where they are. We all laughed thinking that was funny but someone from the group said “I wonder if he hides them because he feels bad for his brother who never gets any letters”. Changed the perspective real quick. Sandra told us she knew they were poor but that she had God and her family and that is all that mattered. This family truly touched our hearts. They were so excited to have us in their home and opened their hearts to us and let us try to understand how they lived. Great great family. Then it was off to the second home. This home was a little better in the sense that it was a bit bigger and had cement floors. There was not a lick of furniture but two chairs in the two rooms that we saw. They were a Mom and Dad and two children. The father was cooking dinner and said it was too bad we didn’t have time to stay to eat with them. He said do you like our invisible table!! We said we all saw it. Very close family. The little girl had had a sponsor but lost it so they were praying for a new one. They also said any time we were back in Bogotá that we were welcomed there any time. Great people!! Then it was off to go eat dinner. We went to this awesome place. We took like a train up this mountain (going backwards I might add) but what a view when we got to the top of the mountain. You could see all of Bogotá all 13 million!! We ate at the restaurant at the top of the mountain. It was awesome!!! Served us a soup that is part of their culture. Then we visited a church at the same mountain top. Beautiful!! Then right around the corner we got to shop at a market with local vendors. Bought a few souvenirs for the family!! It was an incredible day. I could not sleep all night for all that I saw and tried to process through but I was left with poverty is poverty no matter what part of the world it is and all that any of these people want is to provide for their families. Tuesday, August 17th , 2010 - Today we get to meet our sponsored children. Butterflies!!! We went to the project #CO-320. When we got there all the children were lined up at the door waiting for us. When the bus pulled up they all started to scream and were setting off streamers and clapping. Very emotional that they were so happy to see us!!! They all wanted to touch and hug us! We all felt like Rock Stars. They were so loving. Then they welcomed us and performed a show that they had put together for us. Singing, dancing and praying over us. Next to me were Nicole and Fernanda, beautiful children. Fernanda sat on my lap and held my hands with such conviction. Lee had this boy attached to him like glue. He was asking if he was his sponsor of course Lee was not. It broke his heart. Then he asked if he knew who his sponsor was again he had to say no. It is so heartbreaking that all these children want is love and to get to know their sponsor. Who knew that would totally change their lives!! Then it was our turn to entertain them. Lee and I got to sing for them. We sang “That’s What You Do” cause it’s all about sacrifice and these folks that work here everyday do it with such grace. Others performed and then it was lunch time. Served lunch to the children with our chef hats and masks. We looked like surgeons ha!! They served us baked chicken, baked fries, rice and greens for lunch!! Awesome food!! Then after they served us lunch the big introduction happened. When we saw the children walk in, there were three of us meeting our sponsored children, guess what, tears!!! I could see Nayelis my 8 year old sponsor child and I could see Lee’s 8 year old boy, Miguel. They both ran up to us with big hugs, but the funny thing is that Nayelis went to Lee and Miguel came to me. We were all laughing and crying and then made the switch!!! Another Kleenex moment!!! What a wonderful wonderful feeling to meet our sponsor children. There are no words to describe all the emotions that run through your heart. You feel like you are seeing a family member that you have not seen in a very long time. It was awesome. Then we got to visit with them and gave them the gifts that we had brought to them. The joy in their eyes was priceless. I got to meet Nayelis’ grandma. She was crying telling me that I was a blessing to Nayelis because she had no Mom (she left the family 2-3 years ago) and needed a mother figure in her life. TEARS!!!! She was living with Nayelis and her Dad (her son) and grandson helping to raise the family. Incredible lady. I was sooo glad to meet her. But all too soon it was time to say goodbye. Time just melted away like snow in the afternoon sun. Just gone. Nayelis was crying so hard and I was too and her Grandma said that she needed to do better in school so she could write back to me. That she now had a reason to improve. We could just not let go of each other. It was very painful. Lee had a hard time too. Miguel was soooooo cute. We jumped on the bus and Shawna from Compassion asked if I saw Nayelis and her grandma walk away. No I did not. She said it was a good thing cause Nayelis was just inconsolable. Very sad. Then as the bus pulled away Miguel was out our window waving goodbye with a chocolate bar that Lee gave him along with some other kids that he had shared that bar with. Sooooo unselfish. Miguel and his friends chased our bus waving goodbye. More tears!!!!! To help us with all these emotions and to help process all we had experienced, we stopped for coffee and frappacinno at Juan Valdez (we could justify the calories that way)!!! Yes that’s right the famous Juan Valdez!!! Delicious!!! Then it was dinner time and off we went to Crepes and Waffles!! What an incredible place to eat. I had a Pita Siciliana (like a pizza) awesome!!! Don’t know what Lee had too busy eating!!! Then we had their ice cream!!!! OMG!!!! Sinful, it was like a fondue!!! Need I say more!!! Hard to sleep tonight with all that is running through our heads. Trying to process it all. But what an amazing day! Wednesday, August 18, 2010 - Today we visited another project. We walked up stairs at this project and before we got to the top total eruption!!!! A band was playing, kids screaming and clapping, streamers and confetti everywhere!! Again what a welcome for us!!! The kids all wanted to touch us and shake our hands and give us hugs. These kids are sooo special and full of unconditional love. It is just amazing. They entertained us and a couple from California, Mike & Shannon, got to meet their sponsored child. They brought this huge box in front of them and then she popped out of it. What a present!!! Tears!!! It was her idea to do that, WOW!! We visited classrooms and they told us about how the programs work. One classroom was called something like the dream room. Some of the kids presented us what their dreams were and they were dressed like doctors, military, policemen and other professions. We had to guess, it was really cute. Then we met two university students that told us their experience with their sponsors and how it changed their lives and what mentors meant to them. Very touching. One of the girls Vivi told us how she had the same sponsor from elementary school through college. And that her sponsor had written to her saying that she was his first daughter to graduate!! TEARS!!! Then it was lunch time. We were served a sort of spaghetti with sauce, baked chicken and plantines (which is like a banana). Good!! Great day and eye opening when you see the dedication of all the staff to these children and the hope the children feel that they are in such a great place. I must say the area was not the best but once you were in the project building it was like a whole other world. Then it was off to the hotel to get ready for dinner. We drove up in the mountains on the outskirts of Bogotá to this wonderful restaurant. I don’t know the name but it looked like a tree house. It had windows all around it and you could see way down into Bogotá. What a view!!! We were served this turkey or chicken?? Almost like a turkey dinner with potatoes that were like hash browns. YUM!!! Delicious. Then Carlos a pastor that works for Compassion talked to us and welcomed us and then introduced LDP students (Leadership Development Program). These are university students that are part of the LDP program. They told us where they came from (incredible stories of survival) and how sponsors had changed and saved their lives. Very intelligent and determined young people. Very inspiring. Then it was off to the hotel for some rest!! And I (Elaine) have the biggest sore throat!!! Hope I can get rid of this quick!! Thursday, August 19, 2010 - Can’t believe this is our last day in Bogotá. We leave tomorrow. What an incredible week so far can’t wait to see what today holds, even though I still feel sick!!! Off to one more project. Same thing when we walked in. Screaming, clapping just an awesome welcome. The kids are always great and loving. They want to touch you and sit on your lap. It’s just awesome. The girls loved my hair!! Always wanted to touch it. Lee too the boys think he looks like a rock star!!! One of the girls named Julia sat on my lap and I felt like my legs were wet but then I realized it was because she was so cold!!! Her hands and arms were so cold. There is no heat anywhere in Bogotá. That is just incredible. You would have never guessed they were cold. I was freezing and I had layers on and a sweater. Unbelievable. They performed for us and then our whole group went up and sang Jesus Loves Me. They sang it back to us in Spanish. Just beautiful. Then we visited classrooms and they showed us different trades that they learn. Like computer repairs they were on 1980 models!! They made us friendship bracelets. It was awesome to see them work. And I (Elaine) got my first manicure EVER!!!! A young girl was learning this trade so she could make money to help herself and her family. I went with the silver polish!!! Then they served us lunch. Beans, rice, meat and a dessert that was corn based that they only have at Christmas. They said today was like Christmas to them!!! How awesome is that. Then it was back to the hotel to get ready for our last meal together. We went to a great restaurant. Again, I can’t remember the name of it but we had grilled chicken and steak with rice. It was delicious. The Compassion workers from Bogotá told us they had a surprise for us. We got entertained by LDP students with dances for us as a celebration that we were there and as a farewell. It was awesome to watch them, then all of a sudden Lee is like OMG that is Miguel our sponsored children are here!!!! WE were all going crazy. We thought we would never see our children again. When Lee saw Miguel and I saw Nayelis what can we say EMOTIONAL!!!! We hugged our children and cried!!! It was awesome. I asked Nayelis if her grandma came she said no papa!!! I got to meet her Dad. We hugged and he was crying telling me I was such a blessing in their lives and that Nayelis really needed a Mom figure and he was so thankful for me. He also said he was unemployed and looking for work and was so distraught over his wife walking out on the family. That his two kids were the most important thing in his life and that he had lost faith in God and walked away from church but after meeting me he was going to rethink his decision!!!! MORE TEARS!! I told him it was no accident that Nayelis and I were matched that God had hand picked her just for me and that I was the one blessed to be in their family. Just so many emotions. I met Miguel’s mother. Lee had not met his mother because on Tuesday she could not be there because she has a small baby at home and could not get away. They were both disappointed in not being able to meet. She told Lee how a blessing he was in Miguel’s life and she thanked him because she had NEVER been out of their project (neighborhood) EVER!!!! I would say she was in her mid 20’s for sure. They had never been in a restaurant and had never been able to visit the city!! Unbelievable. My brother broke down when he told us this story. He also said that Miguel was wearing our T-Shirt (we brought each of our children a T-Shirt of The Roys!!) and his mother said he wanted to wear it tonight and she said no way, you are putting on your best clothes. She said Miguel’s older brother pointed to Lee on the T-Shirt and said see you can be just like him!!! She said Miguel wears the shirt all the time since he got it. These people are very special in many ways. They have endured so much and live in conditions that we cannot even fathom. In this day and age it’s still unbelievable that the poverty is rampant. We looked around and thought to ourselves if it were us, that we didn’t know if we could survive this day in and day out. We felt so hopeless for them and we were there for 4 days. They live this everyday. But, that is not the impression that we left with. These people have so much faith in God. They know they are not alone in the battle and that God is with them. They love people and they have a very strong sense of community. The children are unselfish and give love unconditionally. We could feel the love and gratitude that they had for our whole group. It really put our little problems into perspective. If they can be hopeful and grateful in these awful conditions we have nothing to complain about. This trip has been emotional beyond words but also rewarding beyond words. We will forever hold the people of Bogotá close to our hearts and will never forget the love they showed us. We wish that everyone could experience this life changing event that took place in Bogotá. We hope this journal gives you a glimpse of what we felt, heard and experienced. To all of you who are on the fence about sponsoring a child. DO IT!!! You will not regret it. I (Elaine) had even questioned if my $38/month would really make a difference in a child’s life. Now I know it will but it also made a difference in my LIFE!!! But don’t forget to write to your sponsored child. Who knew a letter to them would be something life changing. These kids love getting letters and they display them on their wall in their homes in a place on honor for all to see. It is so mind boggling that these families will keep you in their prayers and pray with conviction! We become part of their families and they are part of ours!! We can change the world one child at a time and break the cycle of poverty. I love the quote that Compassion International uses: “The opposite of poverty is not wealth, the opposite of poverty is ENOUGH”!!! Please sponsor a child at www.compassion.com/theroys it will CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!! God Bless you all and thank you for caring about us and what we do and for all your support!!! Elaine & Lee

Dreams Do Come True!! Posted 11/10/2009
Dreams do come true!!!! Hello Everyone hope you are all well. Just wanted to let you know of the incredible night we had tonight. After many years of dreaming about meeting my musical idol, Dolly Parton, well tonight was the night!!!!! I finally got to meet miss Dolly at a release viewing of her new DVD, Dolly Live in London. Our publicist, Kirt Webster, invited us to this function and my brother was in on this. They did not tell me Dolly was going to be there. Lee told me it was some radio remote thing that we were doing because of CMA week. I took the bait, hook, line & sinker. When we got there I was informed this was a Dolly thing and that Dolly was going to be there and we would take our photo with her and get to meet her. When I found this out I of course began to cry and was told to keep in together that I could not cry!!! There were other artists as well invited to this function. Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Country Music Icon - George Jones, Wynonna and us!!!! It was photo time. We all took our places and waited for Dolly to come in the room so we could take our group photo with her. Well when she walked into that room it took all of my strength to not cry, and I did it, I didn‘t cry!!!! After our group photo we got to talk with her. We told her who we were and she held both of my hands and I began to tell her how much I love her and she is the reason why I sing. She looked right at me and said “Well Honey are you a singer and a songwriter” and of course I almost LOST it but I was brave and we chatted some more!!!! Can’t remember what I said but we took our photo with her alone just the three of us!! An unbelievable night!!!! When I got into the car I LOST IT!!!!!!!!!!! I cried like a baby!!!!! Called Mom & Dad and told them the whole story as I was crying and yelling into the phone. I’m sure they thought I lost it for good this time!!!! We even got a goody bag with her new DVD & CD package!!! Our career has had many ups and downs but nights like tonight make all the downs worth it for sure!!!! I have another big dream and that is singing the Opry after tonight it all seems possible……….. Thank you to all the believers out there. God Bless you all.
ICM Awards! Posted 11/10/2009
Tonight are what dreams are made of. This is a night that will go down in history for The Roys. We were just voted the 2009 ICM Vocal Duo of The Year. We almost fell out of our chairs. It was the second award of the night and we both thought there was no way we would win this award so neither one of us prepared a speech. When they said and the nominees are and they proceeded to say all the nominees and the last ones they named was us. Then they said and the award for Vocal Duo of The Year goes to The Roys, we both sat in our seats thinking they made a mistake that we did not hear our name. The people behind us said you guys won get up!!! It was truly an out of body experience. I can't even remember walking up the stage the only thing I thought of was please don't fall!!! Lee took to the podium and spoke very eloquently while I stood there I'm sure with my mouth wide open!!! Then I said a few words but I can't remember one word I said!!! It was an incredible night and what an honor for us to get this award. Dreams do come true and thanks to all of you because your support means the world to us. It's because of all of your kind words and love that we continue on this journey. We will keep you posted as to when this will air so that you can tune in!! God Bless you all!!
WHAT A DAY! Posted 1/21/2009
Hello everyone. Hope all is good. Here is our journal for our trip to sing for President Bush at his farewell party on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 Inauguration Day!! It was an awesome awesome day. When we arrived at Andrews Air Force Base at around 8 a.m. they had us all get off the bus for the bus sweep with the dogs then, we got a personal escort from police right through the Andrews Air Force Base and they brought us to the hanger where we would be performing. In the back of the hanger we got to see the plane that Mrs. Bush used!! I didn't even know she had her own plane. We were also told that every time Air Force One lands it is hand waxed in the hanger!! That is amazing. Then we were brought to our rooms where we got ready and then it was back to the hanger to set up. They had the Air Force band play before us. We had no sound check. It was plug and go!! Sound was great though for having no sound check!! There was about 3500 people in the hanger and they had a big screen where we could watch the inauguration. So once George Bush left the Capital we started to play to entertain the crowd there. We sang 7 songs and then they got there. They opened the walls of the hanger so that the back drop was the Air Force One Plane!! The big plane that we all see on TV!!! It was so big, just amazing. They took me, Lee & Alexis (Lee's daughter) in the back to wait to meet President Bush and Laura Bush. Vice-President Dick Cheney in his wheelchair, and Lynne Cheney came in the back and then President Bush and Laura Bush came in another door. We were greeted by President Bush & Mrs. Bush and we took our picture with them with the President's photographer. We were the only meet and greet that got to see the President. Then we went back up on stage and they went to another area where their podiums were and Lee and I sang the National Anthem. That was so cool knowing that the President & Vice President were there and Mrs. Bush and Mrs. Cheney while we sang the National Anthem and to have Air Force One as our backdrop was beyond words!! What a sight that was. They said their speeches and shook a few hands and they were off. We watched them board the plane for the last time with the military lined up it was so so cool. Then we watched the plane pull away for take off. Just an incredible day!!! History making for us for sure and Alexis to meet and take a photo with President and Mrs. Bush was awesome for her!! It will be a day we never forget!!
YEAR END BLOG!! Posted 1/2/2009
Well hello everyone, can’t believe it’s 2009!!! Where does the time go. We want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. We also want to take a moment to reflect on 2008 and everything that happened this year. First off, we kicked off January of 2008 by going to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. We were part of the Country Cares for St. Jude’s. We visited the hospital and saw what amazing things they do there. We were nervous going in cause we did not know what to expect but it was one of the most cheerful places we have been. It does not look like a hospital at all. It truly was a life changing experience. If you get the chance to visit this amazing place you will not be disappointed you will be inspired! March was the CRS (Country Radio Seminars) where all radio personnel descends to Nashville to discuss the challenges that radio faces. We were part of the Music Row Event that has been going on for 6 years. We played for the DJ’s and radio staff that attended this event. Per Robert K. Oermann a country music critique, he said about our performance: “The result was the strongest set ever performed at this six-year-old Music Row tradition.” That was awesome!!! We also toured with the Country Music Legend George Jones. We also did two shows in Canada with George, back in our hometown so to speak. We did a show at the Moncton Coliseum and in Fredericton. Doing that show in Moncton was surreal because after living in Coal Branch, New-Brunswick for 10 years we had seen George Jones play the Moncton Coliseum many many times and to go back there and get to open for him was just a dream come true!!! In May we had our first song ever hit the top 30 on the Music Row Charts with Grandpa’s Barn. Workin’ Girl Blues and I Only Have Good Days were 2 top 40’s for us also. Awesome!!! We attended our first ever ACM Awards show. We did the Montgomery Gentry Harley Ride for Charity. After the ride we sang on the Freemont Street Stage for all the fans. We sang at the House of Blues at the Mandalay Bay for radio contest winners from across the country. That was so cool to meet all the winners from all different places. They were so nice to us. We also walked the orange carpet for the first time ever also. That was incredible with the paparazzi yelling at us to look up, look left, look right. All we could see were flash bulbs going off!! Surreal!! We attended the show which was just amazing. A great great trip. This year we also did our first ever CMA Music Fest (Fan Fair)!! That was so much fun. We had attended past Fan Fairs and always dreamed we would play at one and finally it happened on the Riverfront Stages!! What a blast to meet all those new fans and get to play our music for them. We also released our new album in June. We did the Little Big Town Harley Ride for Charity and got to sing on the stage for the fans at the end of the ride. We were part of the CMA Music Fest Parade which kicked off the events. Also during CMA Music Fest we were part of Lonestar’s Bowling for Charity. Where we bowled with fans to raise money for charity. What a blast and best of all I beat my brother Lee bowling!!!! We also toured and did shows on our own! This year we opened shows for George Jones, Chris Young, Phil Vassar, Oak Ridge Boys!! Just awesome!!! In July we sang the National Anthem at Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox!!! That was beyond words!!!!! We toured during the summer and fall. Then on Dec. 2nd we were invited to attend a party for the White House Advance Team of President Bush. We toured the West Wing and Oval Office and stood in the back of the West Wing and saw President Bush land in his Air Force One Helicopter and waved to all of us as he walked back to his office. Then we were off to the party where we got to meet and take pictures with Vice-President Dick Cheney and Mrs. Cheney. We took a photo with Mrs. Bush and we also got to meet and take photos with President Bush!!! President Bush gave Lee a big bear hug and they even hit knuckles together, just as if they had been watching football or something!! We were both in awe!! That was such an honor to meet our President and get to take a picture with him. We never thought ever in our lifetime that we would ever meet a President let alone get our picture made with one!!! It was a night we will never ever forget!!!! Then on Tuesday, December 16th we were invited to return to Washington to attend the private Christmas party of Vice-President Cheney at his home. The event was just impeccable. Decorations were just amazing. We took our photo with Vice-President Cheney and his wife Lynne in front of their Christmas tree in their living room. Then to end the evening Lee Greenwood sang 3 Christmas songs with the service orchestra and ended the whole evening with God Bless the USA. Just wonderful and we all felt very patriotic at that moment. Then we were off to Las Vegas to attend the Fair Buyers Convention for a couple of days and there ended 2008. What an amazing country we live in!!! So that is the recap of 2008 for The Roys. We have done things this year that we never even dreamed of so we can’t wait to see what 2009 holds!!! Thanks to all of you for all your continued support and blessings. May you all be blessed and prosperous in 2009!! God Bless The Roys Elaine & Lee
WHAT A TRIP!! Posted 7/30/2008
Hey Everyone, hope your summer is going good so far!! I can't believe it's almost August!! We just got back from our run through the New England states to do some shows and what a time we had. First we were off to Peekskill, New York for a show there. The scenery was absolutely beautiful!!! What an area!! We played in the park near the Hudson River and when the sun went down it was just incredible!! It was very hot but the crowd was so warm and welcoming. We had a ball what a great great night. Made some new friends and then we were off to Massachusetts for a show at the Bull Run Restaurant in Shirley, MA. That is close to our hometown so playing there is always a great night cause we get to catch up with all our fans who have been fans of The Roys since we played our local venues. The crowd again was great and it just went by way too fast. Then we were off to the Mishnock Barn in Rhode Island. We were delightfully surprised when we walked in the club. What an amazing place. The history there is just incredible where it's been in the family for many years and lots of Grand Ole Opry stars sang there in the 50's & 60's and it was just an honor to play there and see all those wonderful dancers and to meet new friends!! We loved it there. Great great place and great people to work with! Then we were off to the Indian Ranch to open for Phil Vassar. We went on first just before the RAIN can and rain it did. But, Country Fans are the best fans ever because when Phil came out and the rain came they stayed in their seats and just cheered him on. Then the sun came back out for the rest of the day and it was just perfect. Again met lots of new fans and had a great time. Played a show at the Brewery Exchange in Lowell. Great venue, great stage, great sound guys and great people to work with. Had a blast and can't wait to go again. Then the last show we opened for Chris Young at the Stratham Fair in Stratham, NH. The sun was shining all day and we even got to eat Lobster. What a treat for us, being from New England we miss our Lobster!!! Great show, great people and great fans, again always a warm welcome. Now the grand finale for us was Tuesday, July 29th. We were asked to sing the National Anthem at Fenway Park for the Red Sox!!!!! What can we say. It doesn't get much better than that. What an honor for us to get to do that. We got to go on the field and practice first during the day and just being on the field was just surreal. We sang the anthem at 6:55 p.m and it went by like way too fast. Our hearts were pounding and our palms were sweaty but we were so proud to be there in our home area for our beloved Red Sox. Everyone there was so nice to us. What great great people. We even took a bus tour of Boston before the game and got to experience a lot of the Boston history. It was just a great great day that we will never forget!!! Go SOX!!!!! Til next time....be safe and God Bless. The Roys Elaine & Lee
CMA Fest Wrapup ! Posted 7/2/2008
June 30, 2008 Hello everyone!!! Hope you are all well and enjoying your summer!! Ours kicked off with a bang when we attended our first CMA Fest as Artists and what a blast we had!! Our CMA Fest started with the Lonestar Bowling Event which raises money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We got to bowl with fans that attended the event. We had so much fun!! The best part of it is that we met new fans and that I got to beat Lee at bowling!!! Tuesday we performed at the Texas Troubadour Theater for a charity event for children also. Wednesday we were in the Parade that kicked off CMA Fest week. There were so many people on the streets waving and taking pictures. We were so impressed to see how dedicated Country Music fans were to stand out in the heat and wave to us!! Also, Wednesday evening was the Country Weekly Magazine’s fashion show, which again was a charity event. It was such a blast. We had never done anything like that before and were a little nervous when it came our turn to walk the catwalk, but we did okay, since we did not fall and that was our biggest fear!! Friday, we did an event for radio stations that were in town. We got to visit with the DJ’s from the stations and do liners and interviews. We played a few songs for them at the end of the event. Then we were whisked off to do an event with JD Haas and his radio winners down at Elliston Place Soda Shop. We got to meet all the winners and sang a few songs for them and got to visit and hopefully make new fans. Then we were off to the Sprint Booth to sign autographs. Saturday was the BIG day for us at the Riverfront Stages for our 15 min. show. We have attended many Fan Fairs and always dreamed that we would someday get to be up on stage and sing for the people. Well that day finally came. It was so so awesome and so much fun the only thing it went by in a flash and it was done!! We then went to the Borders Booth to sign autographs and meet more new fans. Sunday was the last day of events and we did the Little Big Town ride for a cure. Lee did good with the Harley since he got us there safe and sound HA!! The weather was very hot but the scenery was just incredible. Just a beautiful ride. We also sang a couple of songs at the end of the event also. It was just an incredible week for The Roys. The days were very very hot and sticky but the pay off was that we met new fans that really seemed to enjoy our music and we were honored that they would stand in line for us and meet us. Country Music Fans are the best fans in the world cause they are so loyal and hopefully we made a few along the way at the CMA Fest 2008!!!!
ACM WEEKEND!! Posted 5/20/2008
What a weekend…...It started off on Friday, May 16th with an alarm clock going off at 5:15 a.m and getting picked up at 8:00 a.m and off to the airport to start our adventure in Las Vegas and all the festivities for the 43rd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards weekend!! Once we got there we thought we were in an inferno it was so so so HOT!!! Got checked in and got ready for the next day. Saturday up at 5:30 a.m got ready for the Montgomery Gentry 5th Annual ACM Charity Motorcycle Ride with many other artists. Some of the artists in attendance were Little Big Town, James Otto and Keith Anderson. We all hopped on our Harley’s (Lee was riding and I was on the back holding on for dear life!!!) and off we went to the top of Mount Charleston where we went to the lodge there which was about 180 miles round trip!!! A long ride for someone like me that had never been on a Harley in my life!!! Lee took good care of me but I was glad once we got back to point A. Once up top the mountain we ate and visited with other Harley riders that were also a part of the ride. There were probably 40 VIP’s and 1200 fan riders involved in this ride. There were bikes everywhere. Never saw so many in my life!! The weather was 102 and unbelievably hot!!! We had on number 50 sunblock!!! It was a wonderful experience and so much fun. Everyone got back safely and it was for a great great cause. Once we got back to point A we went to Fremont Street where there was a stage set up and they had a house band backing up artists and we got to sing 2 songs for all the fans that had gathered there. It was a wonderful end to a perfect day!!! Next day up again by 6:00 a.m and headed out to Mandalay Bay to the House of Blues club to do the JD Haas winners dream trip. Radio stations from across the country held contests and brought winners in to meet the artists and experience the ACM’s. We sang two songs acoustically and met many fans and were so proud and honored to be there and a part of that. Then we were rushed back to our rooms to get ready for the Awards Show. Got picked up at 2:00 p.m and got ready to walk the orange carpet at 2:15 !!!!! That’s right we walked the orange carpet with all the artists!!!! WOW!!!! What a surreal experience. There were photographers lined up yelling at us to look left, right, up and straight ahead. It was like the paparazzi!!!! Flashes going off everywhere. Then we were escorted down the carpet and were interviewed by different media outlets for TV shows like Country Music Across America with Storme Warren, Inside Music Row and also interviews for print ads for magazines. It was like nothing else we have ever experienced. Then it was off to the Grand Arena inside the MGM Grand where it was way cooler than the 105 degrees outside. We were sweating!!!! We were 11 rows from the front along side many artists and industry people. We could not believe this was happening to us!! We have been watching the ACM’s on TV for many years with our popcorn in hand and sound way up cheering for our favorites and this time we were actually a part of all those amazing festivities after all these years of dreaming about it!!! All I can say is DREAMS do come true so never ever stop dreaming and reaching for all your goals!! WE are living proof that dreams come true. Thanks to all our fans for your continued support and hope you enjoyed this journal cause this is for all of you who have supported us all these years!! God Bless Elaine and Lee
The Latest Posted 4/8/2008
Hello everyone it seems like forever since we last updated our journal!! Well Spring is here and lots is going on. March was a very busy month for us. We attended the Country Radio Seminars in Nashville. That is when DJ's and industry people come in from across the nation and also from various parts of the world to meet and discuss the music industry. This is a very big week for artist like us. This is when we meet everyone and get to reconnect with people that we've met on the road during our radio tours. This was a much different year for us than last year when we attended. This time we got to play a couple shows and were part of the Artist Taping Sessions and did many many interviews with all kinds of media. We kicked off the week by playing at the Music Row Awards Show event. We played at the Second Fiddle on Broadway and the place was packed with wall to wall people. We had a ball!!! Robert K. Oermann which is a big music critic had this to say about our show: " After some more schmoozing, the brother-sister team The Roys provided the event’s finale. Elaine’s lilting hillbilly soprano and Lee’s hearty country-boy tenor were flawless in both lead and harmony passages. “Workin’ Girl Blues” kicked butt, and “Grandpa’s Barn” tugged heartstrings. The result was the strongest set ever performed at this six-year-old Music Row tradition. Wow!! That was a great review. Then we performed at the Wildhorse Saloon on Thursday with many different artists with Mark Chesnutt as the headliner. What an amazing night that was. It was a very busy and fun filled week and it was great to see everyone and get to play for them. Then the second week in March we were off on another radio tour. This time we were back in the Northeast with stops in Albany, NY, Poughkeepsie, NY, Portland, ME and then we were off to the station in Boston, WKLB, where we were a part of their St. Jude's Radiothon. What a thrill and honor that was to be a part of such a great cause to raise money for the children's cancer research hospital in Memphis, TN and to do it in our home turf area. We were so honored. We also played a live show at Jordan's Furniture where many of our fans came out to support us and help in this great cause. It was a very special day. Then it was off to Toronto, Ontario where we became members of the CCMA's and then we went to visit CMT Canada then it was back to Nashville. The following week we played the Billy Block show in Nashville at Cadillac Ranch on Broadway. What a great night that was too. We've also been tying up all the loose ends for the album. I know we keep saying this but we are very close and will update everyone on a release date shortly. Now we are getting ready to hit the road to do some shows with George Jones in Moncton, New Brunswick and also in Fredericton. We are so excited to be going to Canada. It will be like going home. Stay tuned for updates on our next journal on our Canadian Trip. As we speak our new single Grandpa's Barn sits at #42 on the Music Row chart and is being played on the big market radio stations also!! This is our fastest rising single to date. Happy Spring to all of you and God Bless!!

We are getting all of the artwork ready now and can’t wait to see it all put together. Also we just got back from doing 4 shows this week!! What a ball we had. First off we went to Coyote’s in Louisville, KY for the Farmers Convention. Met lots of nice folks from all over the place, Canada, Australia, and all parts of the USA. Then it was off to Rockingham, NC to play City Limits. What a great club that was. They even fed us an awesome meal of baked beans, slaw & chicken wings!! Yum Yum!!! It was delicious. Then it was off to Charlotte, NC to play at Buck Wilds. The place was packed and we had a wonderful time playing for all those nice folks. Then to top it all off we were off to Savannah, GA to open for one of the legends of country music Mr. George Jones!!!! Yeah I can’t believe it either. What an incredible night that was. When we first walked into the venue and looked out at this theater I started to cry. I couldn’t believe after dreaming about this our whole lives that Lee and I were going to play on the same stage as The POSSUM and play for a sold out crowd of 2400 people!!! WOW!!! The folks were so nice to us and really made us feel at home and we were received really well. We had the time of our lives. It was a great great week. The band did great at all shows and best of all our bus driver, Serge, got us there on time and safe!!! We were freezing in Louisville then when we ended in Savannah it was about 75 degrees!! Just a beautiful city. Can’t wait to go back to all those places and see all those nice folks again. We go back out with George to do a show in Lansing, MI next week. We are thrilled about that. And what a show he put on!! They don’t call him a Legend for nothing!!
Happy New Year!! Posted 1/14/2008
Happy New Year Everyone!! Hope it will be a great year for all of us!! A lot has happened since the last update……………Our first single Workin’ Girl Blues ended up at #35 in the Music Row Charts. Our first top 40 EVER!!!!!! We were so very excited to say the least. Looking back at 2007 it was a great year for The Roys. The first part of 07’ was dedicated to recording our new album and the second half was dedicated to cross country radio tours visiting and introducing ourselves to radio. We opened shows for Collin Raye and Neal McCoy and did shows on our own with our wonderful band. We had our first real taste of touring on our bus with a band and we LOVED it and can’t wait to continue. Our video for Workin’ Girl Blues was added to lots of different video outlets and also it was added to the CMT Pure channel on Hey Ya’ll Watch This. According to the chart manager at Music Row: “The Roys debut, “Workin’ Girl Blues” bested four other duos with debut singles charting on Music Row this year.” Also, "Workin' Girl Blues" is Music Row's highest charting debut single for a duo in 2007. We also were a part this year of Christmas for Kids which is an event put on for kids in need. That was a wonderful and incredible thing for us to be a part of. What a great way to end 2007!! Now, 2008 is already off to a great start. We were the featured Who’s New in the January 14th Country Weekly Magazine. Our new single, Grandpa’s Barn is going for adds at radio on January 21. A lot of Music Row stations have already added the song or are already playing it and we have been getting great response so far. We also have a couple of big stations adding the song on the add date. That is all great great news. Also, this year we will be doing shows with George Jones!!! We are so excited about that. He is one of our idols so that will be a thrill. We will be performing at this years CRS in March and we will also be visiting St. Judes Hospital which we are very honored to do. That is a great organization. Our album will be released this year we are working on that now. We will continue our quest to get our name out there and spread the word about The Roys. Thanks to all of you out there for all your continued support and well wishes. Keep calling your radio stations and with a little luck and hard work “We’re Gonna Get There”. God Bless, The Roys
Happy Holidays Everyone Posted 11/24/2007
Hey everyone hope all is well. In the last few weeks we’ve been busy doing all kinds of stuff. We have been doing shows in our home state and we’ve done shows in Louisville, KY and Raleigh, NC. Going home to do 2 shows was great. We have the best fans that have been so loyal to us and we so appreciate them and seeing our family is icing on the cake. The shows were just awesome. We did a show at the Andover Country Club in Andover, MA and a show in our hometown of Fitchburg at the Fitchburg Performing Arts Center. The Performing Arts Center is a church and the sound in there was just absolutely incredible. I have to say it was one of the best shows of my life. Everything just clicked. Great sound, band was smoking hot, great crowd, just awesome. When we got back we headed out for a radio tour in GA, AL & TN. Great week, met with lots of great radio folks and did a lot of singing live on the air!!! Back to Nashville and we were off to attend the CMA’s. What a show!! Our seats were great and the show was really good. We attended the after party and mingled with lots of folks. Then it was off to do our shows in Louisville and Raleigh. Coyotes in Louisville was great. The Saturday night crowd was hopping. Friday night we opened for Neal McCoy at the Longbranch in Raleigh, NC!!!! That was awesome. Neal came on our bus before and after the show and just hung out with us. What a nice guy and he is such a great singer and entertainer!!!! Our single Workin’ Girl Blues is still climbing the charts and we’ve gotten a lot of people telling us they are hearing it and seeing our video too!! We are so excited for 08 and all that is to come. We hope you all have great Holidays and be safe.

Our video for Workin’ Girl Blues just premiered on the CMT Pure channel on the “Hey Ya’ll, Watch This” show!!! It aired on Thursday at 12:30 am so I taped it cause I was afraid that I would fall asleep which I did!!! But it aired again on Friday at 10:30 pm so I stayed up and watched it. This time was different cause I actually saw it in the moment on TV!!!!!! WOW!!!! My whole body was shaking. What an awesome and surreal thing!!! Today we sang in Huntingdon, TN at the Dixie Theater on the Fun on The Farm Show which was being aired live on the radio on 100.9. We sang 3 songs with the house band. They did a great job. It was so much fun. The audience was so nice to us and gave us some really nice compliments. Awesome!!! It’s all about playing for the people and getting all that great feedback keeps us going. Yeah everyone just updating you with more news!!!!!!!!!! Today we found out our single Workin' Girl Blues hit 47 on the Music Row Charts!!! We were so excited to say the least!!!! We have a wonderful team working hard for The Roys and we so appreciate all their hard work!!! Wednesday night we sang at the World Famous Bluebird Cafe with Kathie Baillie & Michael Bonagura (Baillie & The Boys) and Tony Kerr, in the round as they call it. We all sat in a circle and went around each taking a turn and singing original material that we wrote. That was one of the most awesome things we have done. For Lee and I to be sitting in that round with those great artist and songwriters was just such an awesome awesome and surreal thing for us. We were so honored to be a part of such a group!! Thanks for checking in and keep looking for our new entries!! Till next time.....
Hey everyone!! Posted 10/4/2007
10/4/07 - Hello everyone. Here goes our next journal entry!! Well since September we have been on the road visiting radio stations doing a radio tour. Right now we are in Horse Cave, KY and this is our last stop till we head back to Nashville tomorrow after the station visit. Our song has climbed to #51 on the Music Row Charts!!! We were so excited when we heard the news today. Last week while on a radio tour we did some remotes at different businesses for the Workin’ Girl Blues promotion. We sang at Jerol Hopkins Ford in Covington, TN. Jimmy and Bill from the station were there with us. One of the employees from the dealership comes from our hometown!! He lived in Fitchburg & Leominster!! Now that is a small world! We also did a remote from a Sonic in Searcy, AR. Tom Scott the DJ was there hanging out with us. We sang a few songs and he interviewed us live on the air. What an awesome awesome guy!!! Was just a blast!! We also did a remote from Marion Toyota, Marion, IL with Juli from the radio station and we did the same thing sang live and were interviewed while being live on the radio. Meet some new fans there and Juli was a blast!! The last two weeks while visiting all these stations we have been singing live on the air and being interviewed. We have gotten emails from listeners who heard us on the radio!!! Now that is awesome. While leaving a couple of radio stations on our way to the next one, we heard Workin’ Girl Blues over the airwaves!!! What can we say AWESOME!!!!! Today while visiting the station in Liberty, KY after doing an interview and singing on the radio we went to a local restaurant, Emma’s Café, had lunch with Rick from the station & his wife Shelly and sang for the lunch customers. We are reaching new fans everyday and that is what it is all about. This is going to be a busy month for us with lots of different things going on. Keep posted!!
WHAT A BLAST! Posted 9/5/2007
Hello everyone. Well here is our second Journal Entry for our new website. We just came back from opening a show for Collin Raye at the Indian Ranch in Webster, MA. What a wonderful show we had. We made lots of new fans and saw a lot of our regular fans attend the show. Thank you all for your great comments and nice words. We love that, it really keeps us going!!! Our song is #65 on the Music Row charts and we are really excited about that. Workin' Girl Blues has been added to Music Choice which is a comcast digital tv channel which plays music and they have added our song. They have also added the video. That is great news. We have heard from a few people that say they have heard it on there!! Sirius 60 is playing it and of course lots of Music Row stations. We just finished recording the last two songs from our album yesterday. We can't wait for everyone to hear the new stuff. Well bye for now and keep in touch. We will keep you updated with the latest news!! God Bless, The Roys
The Roys First Journal Entry Posted 8/28/2007
8/28/07 -Welcome to our first Journal Entry from our brand new website! Well, so much has been happening so fast, that it is sometimes a blur!! Since June, we have embarked on our National Radio Tour visiting radio stations across the country introducing ourselves. We normally sit in conference rooms and sing for the Program Director and Music Director and sometimes staff members sit in. On a few occasions we have been live on the radio singing 1 to 2 songs and being interviewed on the air!! The first time we were live on the air was with Don Chase from WKML in Fayetteville, NC. That is always such a rush to know that someone is hearing you in their car or at work or at home, it is just awesome. We have been to the Midwest, Northeast, Southeast and West Coast. There are still lots of stations that we have not been to yet that we really want to visit and that is our main goal right now. It is so important that we introduce ourselves to the radio stations because that gives them a better idea of who we are and what we do. The competition out there is fierce!! We are all fighting for a couple of spots on the radio play list which gets smaller by the minute. That is why you the fans need to call and email your local radio stations and ask that they play The Roys and our new single Workin’ Girl Blues. The power of the people is what will get us out there, no doubt. We are #66 on the Music Row charts!! The video for Workin’ Girl Blues is being serviced now to various outlets. That is wonderful and very exciting. The first time we heard Workin’ Girl Blues on the radio was on WCTK in Providence, RI. We visited the station and Steve Giuttari had Robby (DJ) interview us. He told us this would be played back at the 5 o’clock hour so on our way to the next station in CT it came on. We pulled the car over listened to the interview and heard the single play. I was bawling and we were clapping and yelling. What an awesome moment!!! And to hear it on the radio in our hometurf for the very first time was just amazing!!!!!! Then, Lee and I heard ourselves on Sirius radio. We did not know they were going to play Workin’ Girl Blues and they announced that it was coming up next and we heard it. Wow to say the least!!!! I was jumping for joy. We were so excited. Dreams do come true!!! Thanks to all of you and your continued support we are following our hearts and living our dreams. We can’t believe how much our lives have changed in the last 12 months. We have a single out at radio, visited many radio stations, we are members of the ACM’s and CMA’s, we’ve been in trade magazines, filmed a video, recorded a new album and numerous things we can’t even think of!!! Just an amazing start for The Roys!!! But even better than all of that, our fans have been so supportive and we are making new fans everyday and that is just amazing!! Keep checking our website and come along for the journey with us. God Bless, The Roys
