Song of the Mountains December 17th at the Lincoln Theatre
Wednesday, 07 December 2011
Marion, VA- Song of the Mountains will be presenting their final concert for 2011 at the historic Lincoln Theatre in Marion, Virginia on Saturday, December 17th. “This will wrap up or seventh season of quality public television tapings for our concert series,” states Tim White the executive coordinator and host of the popular bluegrass, old time and Americana music program that reaches tens of millions of fans across the United States each year. “All of us with Song of the Mountains want to thank everyone who has supported our groundbreaking concert series over the past seven years. We have presented over 290 bands and well over 1,000 musicians to viewers across America over the past seven years on public television. I am proud to be part of such a professional and talented team at the Lincoln Theatre,” said White.
The December 17th concert will feature five of the top bands and performers touring in the U.S. today. The lineup includes the Roys, Goldwing Express, David Holt and the Lightning Bolts, Monroeville and autoharp musician James Smith.
The Roys are a dynamic young band with a fresh energetic sound. They play traditional as well as progressive styles of music and currently have a new CD on the bluegrass charts titled “Lonesome Whistle”.
Goldwing Express are seasoned professionals on the bluegrass music circuit who have toured many years across the United States. They share fantastic musical abilities and vocal harmonies as well as some hilarious comedy in their show.
David Holt and the Lightning Bolts deliver old-time music with a new time jolt. Four-time Grammy winner David Holt has assembled a group of stellar musicians and entertainers: Laura Boosinger, Josh Goforth, Jeff Hersk and Byron Hedgepath who bring to life the joy and spirit of mountain music. Every lively and entertaining concert sizzles with music learned directly from musical greats like Doc Watson, Tommy Jarrell, Grandpa Jones, Roy Acuff and the oldest person in the world, 123-year-old Susie Brunson.
Monroeville is an exciting new acoustic band with a combined experience of almost 80 picking and singing. Individually they have been nominated for Grammy awards, won prestigious competitions, founded bands, and have been highly influential to their fans and peers. Collectively, in their few months since forming, they have appeared on the Today Show, started a record label, gathered a solid fan base, and established themselves as a powerful new act in the business. The group consists of six young men ranging in ages 18 to 30 from the East Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina areas.
James Smith known as the AutoHarpMan from Al-la-Bam, grew up in Huntsville, Alabama and graduated from Huntsville High in 1961. He sings what has become referred to as “Roots Music”: the music that was popular before the popular music of today. (Old-time Appalachian Mountain music, Old-time Gospel songs, Traditional Irish, Scottish, and Welsh folk songs along with Original songs) Enjoy the beautiful sound of his custom made Morgan-Autoharp that’s guaranteed to bring a tappin’ to your toe, a smile to your face or a tear to your eye.
